We went to Toys R Us over the weekend and bought Joaquin a toy. I didn’t recognize it for what it was at the time… a doll house. It was called a “Play House”. The colors weren’t overtly girlish; there was purple and pink and green. The dolls weren’t really dolls but little wooden people, like something Fisher Price would have made that I recall playing with as a kid.
Then we got it home and I saw the pink bed and the pink steps and I looked a little closer at the layout of it… and I realized it has the layout of a dollhouse. And I looked Sol and said, “This is a doll house!” and I could see ‘uh-oh!’ cross her face and she said, “Yeah, it is. I was wondering if you were going to notice.”
But I saw how much Joaquin liked it. He shouted with delight several times. It came with a book, one of those books that plays sounds when you press one of the buttons on the side. He gleefully laughed when he pressed the button that plays the sound of children playing and giggling.
So what if it’s technically a dollhouse? As long as it makes him happy, I’m not going to be bothered by it.
My politics are changing. I don’t know where I fit any more. I was once for but am now against gun control. I don’t think I like Obama. I don’t think I like McCain. I don’t feel educated enough to be able to decide. I don’t know where I stand. My heart lies with the left but my head is drifting away.
We now have a new sofa. It’s not perfect but it’s nice. It’s a sectional, or something like that, chaise lounge on the side. It’s mainly a place to rest the laptop though. Pictures later, maybe.
